Remotely access rFactor telemetry using rFactor Communicator

Sun 03 February 2013 // posts

rFactorCommunicator is a plugin for rFactor (1 & 2) that exports server data using its embedded HTTP server.

This plugin is mainly used for this Android app rFactorCommunicator Android App, found on Google Play Store.

How to install and use

  1. Unzip plugin's zip file into rFactor's directory.
  2. The first time you launch rFactor with this plugin installed, an .ini file called rFactorCommunicator.ini will be created inside rFactor's directory.
  3. By default, the embedded HTTP server will listen on port 28888, but you can change this port by editing the 'listen_port' property inside the ini file.
  4. Once rFactor is running, go to http://localhost:28888/rfcomm/session (change port 28888 to whatever port you've chosen) and see if a response is returned.

If you want to be able to access the embedded HTTP server from outside your network (eg. from the internet), and you're behind a firewall/router (which you likely are),
you must forward the traffic to your rFactor server / listen_port. To do this, please check how in your router/firewall manual.
